NEW YORK: How To Do Queer History

$200.00

How to Do Queer History is a three-part, hybrid skill-building series designed to help participants uncover, document, and share LGBTQIA2S+ history. All are welcome—no prior experience required. Think of it as an independent study with a supportive cohort and an experienced guide alongside you.

Rather than surveying queer and trans history broadly, this course focuses on how history is made. Participants learn the tools historians use to work with oral histories, community archives, and public history, while also exploring creative formats like walking tours and social media. By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence and practical skills to begin your own queer history project.

Course Schedule

January 7 – February 6 | Independent, Self-Paced
Upon registration, you’ll receive access to a self-paced online course introducing public history methods and research tools. You can move through the material at your own pace and revisit it anytime. We recommend completing one or two modules before the in-person visit, then continuing as your project takes shape.

Saturday, February 7 | In-Person (Optional, NYC)
Guided visit from 10:00-11:30AM at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center.

February 8 – 18 | Independent Project Work
Dedicated time to develop a project inspired by the course, with optional one-on-one meetings for individualized support.

February 19 | Virtual Session (7:00–8:30 PM ET)
Final Zoom gathering where participants pitch their project ideas and receive supportive feedback. Past cohorts will also be invited, and you’ll gain access to our ongoing group chat.

This course is open to participants nationwide. Attendance at the NYC museum visit is optional.
