Floriography Studio NYC is the artistic practice of queer artist Kimm Topping, based in Brooklyn.
Working in collage, painting, and illustration, Kimm creates layered works that explore memory and everyday intimacy. Using archival imagery, natural objects, and color, the artwork reflects on the ways we remain connected to our natural environment and the people who came before us.
Original works are available for collectors, alongside prints and commissioned projects. Recent collaborations include a national museum and independent bookstores.
Floriography Studio is also home to Floriography, a literary journal featuring multidisciplinary writers and artists.
“When I was a kid, I had no fear of trying new mediums. I made greeting cards from scraps in my basement, sewed pillows out of old fabric, and hosted an art exhibit in my bedroom. By my twenties, judgment crept in and claimed my artistic practice for years on end.
At 30—after quitting my job, falling in love, and moving to the place I always wanted to live—my creative self returned. The judgment still shows up, but now I work with it as part of my process.
My artwork is an invitation to connect with your creativity and earlier freedom. To welcome curiosity and play. What can you try? What can you revisit? Who are you when you create? What is there to celebrate within your day? It also asks us to bridge our past with our present. How are we closely connected with those who came before us, and to our younger selves?"
