Hi, I’m Kimm, and I’m your queer cheerleader as you learn about queer and trans history. Most importantly, I’m here to support you in pursuing your own project, and making history!
A bit about me:
Artist-educator and historian with over 10 years of experience
Founder of Lavender Education, where I educate, fund, and mentor writers, artists, and historians - especially those who are completely new to these fields!
Artsy interests: collaging, arranging flowers, illustration
Daily goal when I get out of bed: Support people with embracing their confidence and creativity
Now for more of the professional stuff to explain why I’m the right person to teach this course. These are some examples of how I made queer/trans history accessible to wider audiences, which is exactly what you’ll do in this course:
I’m an author! My first book, Generation Queer, is a nonfiction YA highlighting the stories of LGBTQIA+ youth activists. Through over 50 oral history interviews, I created a meaningful story of youth activism today that’s written for both young adults, educators, and anyone interested in queer activism.
I’m a tour guide! My historic tours of Cambridge and New York City spotlight queer and feminist activism from the 1970s to the 1990s, and the series that I researched and wrote, Mapping Feminist Cambridge, is available for free through the Cambridge Women’s Commission.
I’m a professor! I lecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, specializing in gender, sexuality, and equity. I love seeing former or teachers-in-training build their confidence around creating more inclusive classrooms.
People say nice things about my work! Check out the reviews below to see what people have said about this course since it started in 2022. My work has also been recognized with the 2025 Lavender Rhino Award from Queer History Boston, the 2025 Curve Power List, and the 2023 Inaugural In-Service Award from the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition.
